What are EnChroma® color blind glasses?

EnChroma® color blind glasses are special glasses designed to help people with color vision deficiencies experience a broader range of colors. By filtering out specific wavelengths of light, these glasses enhance contrast between colors that are difficult for people with color blindness to distinguish.

What are the benefits of EnChroma® color blind glasses?

EnChroma® glasses can be a life-changing experience for people with color vision deficiencies. They allow them to see colors they may have never seen before or experience colors in a new and vibrant way. It is important to note that EnChroma® glasses do not cure color blindness. However, they can enhance color perception and make it easier for people with color vision deficiencies to differentiate between colors.

EnChroma® glasses come in different styles and are available in prescription and non-prescription options. The lenses have a special coating that helps protect them from scratches and impact damage. EnChroma® glasses are suitable for use in many different environments, including indoors, outdoors, or in bright sunlight.

EnChroma®’s story

EnChroma®’s story is one of serendipity and innovation. It all began in 2002 during an Ultimate Frisbee game in Santa Cruz, California. Don McPherson, a serial inventor and Ultimate Frisbee enthusiast with a Ph.D. in glass science, wore a pair of laser safety glasses he had invented for surgeons. His teammate, who was severely colorblind, tried on the glasses and was amazed to see the bright orange cones marking the game boundaries.

This event sparked Dr. McPherson’s curiosity and led him to partner with Andrew Schmeder, a UC Berkeley-trained mathematician. Together, they spent years developing EnChroma®patented color-blind lens technology that unlocks a whole new world of color for people with color vision deficiencies.

EnChroma, Inc. was founded in 2010 and is based in Berkeley, California. Today, EnChroma® offers a full collection of high-performance eyewear that enhances vision for color-blind people all around the world.
