Fundus photography is a valuable diagnostic tool that allows optometrists at Buckeye Optometry to capture detailed images of the inside of a patient’s eye.

The procedure for fundus photography is simple and painless. Patients will be asked to sit in front of a camera that is specially designed to capture images of the retina. A series of flashes will be used to take multiple images of the eye, which will be processed and saved for later analysis.

What are the benefits of fundus photography?

Fundus photography provides many useful benefits for your eye health and vision care.

  • It is particularly useful for people who have conditions that affect the back of the eye, such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy. These conditions can be difficult to diagnose and monitor using traditional eye exams alone, but fundus photography allows optometrists at Buckeye Optometry to get a detailed look at the structures inside the eye and detect subtle changes that may indicate the presence or progression of these conditions.
  • The images captured through fundus photography will be used to educate you about your eye health, as our eye doctors can show you the images of your eyes and explain what they are looking for and what the images reveal about your eye health.
  • Fundus photography also allows our eye doctors to compare images of your eyes over time to monitor changes. For example, patients with diabetic retinopathy may require regular fundus photography to monitor the progression of the condition and adjust treatment as needed. Similarly, patients with glaucoma may require regular fundus photography to monitor changes in the optic nerve and assess the effectiveness of their treatment.
